With a spate of restaurant rumors accompanying spring construction – and an always-persistent chatter about new additions – we’re working to compile a rundown of the area’s most wanted restaurants and stores. We’ve heard plenty of interest in the usual suspects – Sonic, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and the Cheesecake Factory, to name a few, but now’s your chance to make the pitch yourself.
So let’s hear them: In 50-ish words, tell us what you want and why we should get one. Write me,
leave a comment below (be sure to include your name and hometown), tweet @MarinoEccher, or call if you’re really ambitious (701-241-5502). We’ll be looking for your input between now and Wednesday afternoon, and run down the results in Saturday’s Forum.
Item No. 1 on my own wish list: White Castle. It may not be gourmet, but with 25,000 college students and a thriving bar culture in the area, how can a restaurant synonymous with cheap eats and 24/7 hours go wrong?
I want Joe’s Crab Shack
The French Laundry
PF Changs!!!
Oh yes, Joe’s Crab Shack would be good.
Panera Bread–this hits the pastry, bistro, and wi-fi sweet spot while brewing a decent cup of coffee. The presence of a Panera usually raises the carbohydrate-caffeine bar in every town they inhabit.
I would love to have Chick-fil-A here! Join our FB group: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_159888420738803&ap
Put another vote in for Whole Foods. To have a big chain grocery store where healthy and natural options are the ENTIRE store and not just a small section in the corner would be wonderful!
Boston Market and El Pollo Loco
I lived in ND most of my life and have lived in Nashville for the past 5 years. We have almost all of the stores/restaurants people mention here within our metro. So here’s my take on this….
Panera is great. Always a lunchtime favorite.
Sonic is some of the worst fast food there is. Their milkshakes are good. I think a drive-in up in the cold weather kind of defeats part of the purpose, though.
I know people want Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. Trader Joe’s is not a place I could do ALL my grocery shopping but it’s good for niche shopping. Whole Foods is great for certain items but the cost prevents me from picking up a lot of stuff there. They have great cheese and beer selections.
White Castle?? We have that and its southern counterpart, Krystal. When I first moved here I was excited for that because I like that garbage…but, I grew tired of it pretty quickly and rarely go there anymore. It seems to make me a bit sick to my stomach when I eat it, too.
Chick-Fil-A is awesome. Best chicken fast food there is. Definitely better than Popeye’s, which we have as well.
I know I’m a bit late to the party, but I’d really like a Tim Hortons in Fargo. A Canadian staple – the weekend Winnipegers would especially love it!! It’d be a natural fit. Or at least get one in Grand Forks and open it next to the Canad Inn.
They’ve opened many US locations out east (my wife and I ALWAYS stop for Timbits while visiting her family in Ohio), and after a little research I see they are expanding south. Hope they can make it out this way eventually, on the US side. There’s over 20 Tim Hortons in Winnipeg, so why not?
